Once the Zippo Hour Hand Warmer is ignited there is no way to stop the heating action. If necessary, place the Hand Warmer in the bag and place on a fireproof surface until the fuel is exhausted and the Hand Warmer is cool to the touch.

The Zippo Hand Warmer requires oxygen for the heating process to occur. The bag regulates the amount of oxygen. Do not use it without the provided bag because it will get too hot. The bag regulates the amount of oxygen and in doing so regulates the temperature of the Hand Warmer. Without the bag the Hand Warmer may get to hot and could cause injury or fire.

Carefully, to avoid getting burned, check the burner.

It should fit tightly. The burner may not have ignited properly. Repeat the lighting instructions. Make sure there is enough lighter fluid in the Hand Warmer. If your butane torch or lighter stops working, you should also make sure you are using the correct grade and brand of butane. One of the symptoms of lower grade fuel is flickering or sputtering of the flame, this symptom can also be caused by air in the fuel cell which can be resolved by removing the air.

Butane torches these days are generally equipped with instant electronic ignition systems and these have a reputation for being reliable technology. The first is to try and regulate the flow of gas because it may be too low for optimal ignition. You can turn the gas output all the way up then turn it back after the gas is ignited.

What can occasionally happen though is if you are using the torch for soldering, a tiny piece of solder may become lodged and stuck in the nozzle. To fix your torch, you will need to turn the torch off and remove the offending particle s of solder. One way to clean out the nozzle is to shoot compressed air into the nozzle area where the gas exits the torch.

This may dislodge any foreign matter that is causing the suboptimal performance. Filling a butane torch can generally be accomplished quickly and using the best quality butane will always help your torch to function at its optimal level.

General care in looking after portable tools such as keeping them clean and in good order will also help to ensure the longevity of your torch.

I am excited to share my favorite jewelry tool with you. Using a butane micro torch can be intimidating to the novice.

Ronson Tech Torch (Micro Torch) Review

I have two torches that belong to the butane micro torch family. Both are durable, high-powered and specifically geared for jewelry making. They are constantly being used in different settings for over five years and are still as good as new. My Blazer torch above is the first butane micro torch I ever purchased that worked well for jewelry. I found out the hard way that you get what you pay for with butane torches. When shopping for a butane torch, take a good look at it.

Is it mostly plastic with a minimum of metal parts? If so, put it back on the shelf, regardless of the great bargain. Torches kept on for an extended length of time during the soldering process get hot. That heat centers around the top of the torch and torch head. Too much plastic, and you may find that your torch head may slightly melt. That will affect the delivery of the butane to the torch tip, which makes the torch impossible to light.

Torches that are mostly metal can be used for extended periods of time without fear of damage. My other micro torch is the Max Flame torch, above. The flame on my Max Flame torch is wider and longer. That means I can solder bigger pieces with the Max Flame torch than with the Blazer. I outlined what each type of torch can be used for in the jewelry-making process.

I use regular butane fuel from the hardware store for refills. This is not an endorsement, just my experience. Was curious if using a heat gun would be any better. This torch does have a tip to diffuse the flame for just heat which works pretty well and you can lock the trigger on. Sometimes I think it's a bit too hot and you have to buy refill butane every so often. Has anyone used both? Have a preference for either? Just refill with butane lighter fuel. Regards, Dennis.

I use both a hot air gun and a butane torch! I like the gun for the bench when making connections and projects and the torch for "out in the field" stuff.

Each has plus and minus qualities to them but it makes life easier to have each one. It just takes getting used to each ones little quirks and after a while you can handle them equally. I only use the butane outside when power isn't right there. I like using the hot air gun hair dryer type most of the time.

If I'm soldering and need to do one or two I use the hot air on the solder station but it's pretty hot meant for surface mount soldering. Have only used a small heat gun.

But found that using 3;1 shrink ration versus is most more efficient. Just seems to shrink up quicker. I use a cheap "Paint Stripper" heat gun, and would not be without it.

I found the Butane flame throwers too easy to burn the insulation and the heat shrink, which is somewhat counterproductive :- Terry. Anyone try these? They are quiet and efficient electric heat is very inefficient. Most heat guns sound like a freaking hair dryer. Not something I want to be firing up at 11 at night when the kids are sleeping.

I was hoping to get a pencil sized one. The hair dryer ones just seem a bit big physically. I use this every day that I'm in the workshop. It heats fairly quickly, does the job it is supposed to do. Noise level? Its gotta be better than the hair dryer ones.

If you do a search here for embossing, you'll find a couple threads on that one. I use an "embossing" heat gun and it works nicely for heatshrink. It is a little more maneuverable than the bigger gun shaped ones. Wish I had gotten it a couple of years ago. It's quiet, can be focused just on the heat shrink I'm working on, and is light.

My Ace Hardware heat gun disperses heat too wide, so on second and third wire of a three-wire string of pixels, the heat from the gun will unnecessarily heat the other two finished heat shrinks. Because I mainly use the solder heat shrink sleeves, I want to avoid remelting the solder, or burn through the heat shrink, on the previously finished two wires.

For the heat shrink I use to then cover the three wires, I do use a heat gun, as it seems to be quicker. Back to using the lighter for the solder heat shrink: One thing I learned is to heat the solder sleeve with the Bic lighter in a back and forth motion. Here at Walmart. Best Torch For The Money!

I just went out and spent 50 bucks on a damn torch and NO butane or adapters will make it fill without leaking half the damn can out, and I cannot afford that haha. Idk what to do, I can't return it and I would rather throw it at the ground and break it then keep paying for wasted butane.

Turn the gas dial to maximum and try lighting again. My torch has been working fine for the last couple months, but i went to fill it today and the "hiss" sound before lighting it wasn't there?

No flame without a "hiss" right? What do I do? I purchased a proxxon butane torch in June. Am using triple refined butane.

The torch just quits while in the middle of project. It is not empty because have filled It right before. And the igniter is very temperamental. Half the time have to keep on pushing igniter ten or so times before it works. All inside the tip Can you help me. Guess I need to find some sort of alert feature to let me know when people post on this page of my blog! LOL Yes, butane torches can be temperamental and frustrating - but hey! So, of course we have to live with some quirks and sometimes you just have to replace the torch.

Or as I call it, opportunity for an upgrade. Let me answer some of the previous posts. Jennifer and the Leaky Butane: Been there with a big wet leaky refill. It usually still fills but it's just as ridiculous and frustrating as Jennifer posts. Luckily it doesn't happen too often. First choice if this happens to you: return the torch.

It could have a faulty valve. If that's not an option, then we can try a fix, sort of a reboot. There could be an air bubble or clog. You can open up the butane on the torch and let it vent outside. If you can't vent without a flame, turn on the torch, but blow out the flame. Again: vent outside in open air in a safe place for minutes. Not inside or near flames duh!
