Thread starter Silverwolf Start date Oct 24, Silverwolf Well-Known Member. Hello Everyone, new to the forum here, need some help. I was recently forced to purchase a single axle rig to tow our fifth wheel around, as its over weight for regular trucks. So although I always retained my license, I haven't had a truck in a long time.

I know little about the engines and my fan is stuck on.

Scooter goes slow up hills

My truck is a single axle Volvo VNL, sleeper, and the cummins isx motor and a eaton fuller 10 speed. The fan turned on yesterday, and has never shut off. Chirps on shut down, but does not unlock.

I'll check in the morning, but I think its on all the time, with air in the truck or not, running or not. Right after shut down I know it is on because it wont turn easily by hand.

Stores that accept sezzle

I'll wait till morning and bleed off all the air in the tanks tonight, and check in the morning to see if it let go.

But I doubt it. So does this mean the clutch needs replacing? Or is there a sensor, or valve or something that could be stuck. I checked for a fuse and a relay, and there is none. Or at least its not on the fuse panel or the fuse panel list. Can anyone help me figure this out or lead me in the right direction? Trouble shoot method? I can't afford a Volvo mechanic. I'm great at repairs, if I know whats broken. AK7 Well-Known Member. Make sure you dont have it in defrost mode.

Mar 11, I just removed air line from fan clutch, and when i turn on the engine there is no air coming from the air line. From what i know there should be air going if the engine is on, am i right? I got to check clutch solenoid now but i can't find it, can someone point me in a right direction on where can i find it?

There is no charge for this service, but standard message and data rates may apply. It was located right in front of 2 air tanks, its right under lover step. Anyways, 1. I started the engine 2. I unplugged air line thats going toward fan clutch and the air is not blowing from the solenoid out toward fan clutch 3. I checked the power connector thats connecting with solenoid power and there is power.

So i guess the solenoid is bad, the power going toward it but the air is not coming out. Can you confirm my conclusion, also will freightliner solenoid fit, or should i just stick to original KW.

Electrically they are all similar, but ftiings may differ. Pablo-UAMar 11, Did you check ground to see if ECM is grounding solenoid? Did you check to see if air is getting to the solenoid? Mar 12, Mine had a fried wire going to the solenoid KrooserMar 12, Mar 13, Show Ignored Content.

Thread starter wyocommo Start date Jul 11, Steel Soldiers is supported by: 1 2 Next. Spent the afternoon troubleshooting why the fan clutch does not engage at proper temp. Clutch is working as advertised when air is removed. When power is removed from quick exhaust solenoid it does not exhaust air in the clutch circuit to allow the clutch to engage.

Dismantled solenoid and cleaned, appears to be OK. Reinstalled but no joy. If engine is stopped and air system pressure begins to bleed off it will eventually exhaust as it should. My conclusion is either a bad solenoid, which it sure doesn't look bad, or way too much pressure on the wet tank output air circuit.By garciaDecember 29, in Engine and Transmission.

I have a Mack Ch and my fan clutch won't stop. Fan clutch it's self is fairly new but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. I suspect it's something electrical. Some times driving down the road I hear it come on and off about times per Second, like if has a faulty relay or sensor.

Any ideas or clues?? Where can I find its relay or what sends the signal for it to come on and off. It's air operated, turns off when air is introduced and shuts off when it doesn't. I don't know if the Mack's work this way, but one of my F-Liners had a prob. But when the truck went up to temp. It's winter time and my water won't heat enough for heater to heat properly.

You should have 2 coolant sensors the one on the side of the water manifold is for your temp gauge on the dash the one on the end of the manifold is for the ecu that controls your fan. Check and make sure were the wires come off the sensor at the back of the head and down has not rubbed or shorted the wiring there is a clamp back there that is good at rubbing on the wires. I have the same issue with my truck, I have a CX E I have also check the air solenoid on the side of the radiator to make sure it was working properly and it was.

I put ground to the solenoid and the fan shut off, but as soon as I take it off the fan turns back on. I am at a loss with this one in figuring it out. Please help me on this one. Prior to buying my CX, E,I had the truck checked out by a Mack dealer in Oregon where the truck was located. One of the problems was the fan running all the time. Service said they replaced a fuse and that stopped it.

Now, 6 months later it is still operating properly. I do not know which fuse it was but I hope this is of some help. Sounds like the bridge connector from the knuter retificer to the selicone based monulated switch controler circuit has more than 10 ohms.

Speciality of abu dhabi

That would be above range for the heavy duty secondary phaser senor. So my remendation is reverse polorize it for 13 milsec then open the dash and let the smoke out. If that dont get it then take it to mack.

So are y'all saying it is a sensor issue or a wiring problem. I know a lot about the mechanics of the truck but I get stumped on the electrical side of it. Please help as I would like to get this taken care of soon!!!!Forums New posts Search forums.

There are two types of solenoids.

Horton Fan Explained

One where the clutch fan needs air to turn on and the other turns off with air. You need the correct type. Oh I forgot thanks for Reply greatly appreciated. Ziggy said:. I know I could Jury rig this with a hot wire and perifrial switch with on off but would not be right and would over work compressor when running hot.

Pops65 Well-Known Member. Could have a voltage drop to solenoid not allowing it to open or close all the way, you would need to check spec.

Just a quick thought. Solenoids are a electro magnetic and need enough power to work right. AlexG Well-Known Member. Could you post some pics so we can have a better idea?
